How does the procedure for CEREC Same Day Crowns work?
Dr. Formoli will use CAD and CAM technologies to prepare your crowns. First, your tooth enamel will be cleaned of any decay and reshaped to prepare it so it can wear the crown safely and comfortably. Then, using a medical-grade camera and computer technology, digital pictures of your dental anatomy will be taken, rather than making a traditional impression that dentists generally use.
The computer then converts the picture into a 3-D CAD model of that specific tooth. Next, based on the CAD model, the computer makes use of CAM technology to create an accurate ceramic dental crown for your tooth using a single porcelain block. This process takes no more than half an hour. All you have to do is sit comfortably in the chair while you wait. After the dental crown is created, it will be placed on your tooth, then and there. With this, the entire procedure is over. You don’t have to come back for another appointment.
